ABOUT

Simon’s Horticultural career started over 35 years ago working in a local plant nursery near his hometown of Huddersfield. After completing a National Certificate in Horticulture from Askham Bryan College, York he worked as a Propagation Manager in a large wholesale nursery in Oxfordshire for eight years. In 1995 he was fortunate to win the Richard Martyr Award for Plant Propagation from The International Plant Propagators Society. After completing a Certificate in Plantsmanship from the Royal Botanic Gardens Edinburgh in 2002 Simon started work full time in private gardens. Firstly, maintaining and developing a large private garden just outside of Oxford. Then in 2005 he made the move to Cheshire to become a Head Gardener for another large private garden. This time he was given a blank canvas which over the next few years he was able to design and developed turning it from a brownfield site into a beautiful garden. In 2009 he was a finalist in the Horticultural Week ‘Professional Gardener of The Year’ Award for his work. Since 2016 Simon has been working freelance and has worked on many different garden and planting projects, specialising in border design and planting schemes as well as all aspects of garden care. Simon also has an interest in Social and Therapeutic Horticulture completing an Award in STH from the charity 'Thrive' in 2025. He is involved in a local community gardening project called 'Made on my patch'. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Horticulture and the Professional Gardeners Guild.
