Deadheading Roses 2004

Simon’s Horticultural career started out over 30 years ago working in a local plant nursey near his hometown of Huddersfield. After completing a Nation Certificate in Horticulture from Askham Bryan Collage, York he worked as a Propagation Manager in a large wholesale nursery in Oxfordshire for eight years. In 1995 he was fortunate to win the Richard Martyr Award for Plant Propagation from The International Plant Propagators Society. After completing a Certificate in Plantsmanship from the Royal Botanic Gardens Edinburgh in 2002 Simon started work full time in private gardens. Firstly, maintaining and developing a large private garden just outside of Oxford. Then in 2005 he made the move to Cheshire to become a Head Gardener for another large private garden. This time he was given a blank canvass which over the next few years was able to design and developed turning it from a brown field site into a beautiful garden. In 2009 he was a finalist in the Horticultural Week ‘Professional Gardener of The Year’ Award for his work. Since 2016 Simon has been working freelance on many different gardening projects. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Horticulture, The Professional Garden Consultants Association and Professional Gardeners Guild.
